Quilter's Relay for Life -- May 3, 2011

Patty, LeAnn, Nancy, Vivian, Pat, Linda & Marie

All finished!
We were a small but might group, working together at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.  We began our day with a few moments of fellowship, pledging our day to the Lord, and naming friends or family members that we were sewing for.  Eight quilters formed three teams.  We played several games that allowed us to exchange fabric squares with each other.  Then, each team drew a section of the quilt to piece.  Ultimately, each section completed has a touch of everyone!  We were using the English Garden pattern that I designed specifically for this project.  Marie Sides (Harlan), Patty Stephens (Macedonia), Pat Trusty (Omaha), Linda Hopp (Harlan), Nancy Cook (Avoca), Vivian Storjohann (Avoca) and LeAnn Keenan (Harlan) spent the day sewing small, medium, and large pinwheels and finishing sections 7-11.  We were very fortunate that Jill Conry (Beebeetown) had constructed sections 1-6 prior to our workshop day.  Also, Shirley Wingert had created several blocks that we included in our sections.  Shelby County State Bank has agreed to let us display the finished quilt in each of their branch banks in order to sell raffle tickets as a fundraiser for Relay for Life.  I'll keep you posted on the location and progress of the fundraiser.

We want to thank Immanual Lutheran Church, Harlan, for providing us the space for our workshop.  And thanks to the Coffee Plant for the yummy cheesecake and Pizza Ranch for the scrumptious chicken wraps.

Team Tornado with their finished section.

Team Cheesecake with their finished section.

Team Section 8 was first to finish a section.

Now you know how Team Cheesecake got their name.
Team Tornado had to harness the wind to make their pinwheels fly the right direction.
Nancy can count, LeAnn doesn't listen, and Vivian doesn't remember things,
yet this team finished the first block -- go figure!
