Christmas Mystery Workshop Yields Gifts Galore

Nancy Watts with her finished quilt top.
The weather was great on December 19 when we held our Christmas Mystery workshop. 8 quilters from around the area participated. Prior to the workshop, they were able to choose their border color: blue, green or black. The blocs and sashing strips were pre-cut, so we didn't waste any time with tedious cutting. The wall hanging "Gifts Galore" featured a fusible applique design.

Check out more pics and descriptions on our facebook page.

Merry Workshop was Merry Indeed 12/12/2011

Five quilters gathered at the shop to make Merry -- a quick applique Christmas wall hanging designed by Patrick Lose. We used Moda Marble Swirls for the project.  With only one seam in the wall hanging, it is a very easy wall hanging.  For many of the ladies, this was their first experience with fusible applique.  Patrick Lose typically writes his patterns so that you don't have to stitch down the applique shapes.  Truly, ANYONE, could make this wall hanging.  We have a few kits left in the shop, $25 complete.

I've got to thank Patty Stephens for encouraging me to start up classes and workshops again.  I have not held a class since April, when we moved the quilting machine into the classroom.  Our workshop Monday night was a little unorthodox, quilters tucked into every nook in the shop.  Everyone was patient with the surroundings, and we had a fun time!

New Fabric Hits the Shelf -- Groove On

Marie Osmond has designed a groovy new line of fabric for Quilting Treasures, and we have 10 new bolts on the shelf.  The line combines funky florals and paisley prints.  If you like teal, aqua, green and chocolate, you will love this fun new line.

Marie has posted a free project sheet on Quilting Treasures website Groove On Project.

We plan to stitch it up in a pre-cut Take 5 throw quilt kit.  Look for the kit to be available in January.

Preserving Memories 12/8/11

This fuzzy bear is on her way to Pam Crockatt in California.  Pam asked us to make this memory bear from her grandmother's robe as a lasting memory.  Our bear sewist, Linda Brue, used the satin lining of the robe for the bear's ears and paws.  She added embroidery on both paws and a heart-shaped picture of Grandma Dorothy.

Look What's Quilting -- Val Finley 12/7/11

Val Finley, Denison, constructed two of these Kansas Troubles beauties.  They are Christmas gifts for family.  We were able to get one finished before the machine died on us.  We are hopeful that the second quilt will be finished in time for Val and her family to fly out on Christmas day.  Val chose to quilt it with Berry Vine Park pattern in Camel thread by Signature.

Look What's Quilting -- Jackie Dollen 12/3/11

A little something for everyone.  Jackie Dollen, Persia, has constructed over a dozen quilts for her grandchildren for Christmas.  Most of the quilts have been fairly simple in design, but Jackie has personalized each one by choosing fabrics that reflect the interests of each grandchild.  The last quilt we quilted for Jackie was the strip quilt, right.  It will be a wonderful Christmas as the Dollen house.  I hope Jackie takes a group pic of the kids with their quilts so we can see the joy!
