A moment with Nancy

Hello everyone!  What a week!  Graduations, Spring market and rain with cool weather. Nothing like going to a graduation in pouring down rain only to realize you forgot your umbrella!  Not so fun.
Teresa and Patti are back from Market and I'm anxious to see what news they brought back with them.  That's always fun.

Well....I finished my black and white quilt and the backing. (yay!)  That's all ready to quilt.  I was feeling a little lost today so I got into my PHD's. (projects half done).  I had started a New York Beauty 10 years ago as a block of the month.  I had the squares completed, they just needed to be sewn together.  And then of course the border.  The border is something else and will probably take me the rest of my life to complete.  The trouble with unfinished projects is when you eventually get back to them it seems like it takes forever to figure out where you were when you put it away.  I have at least a couple of those in my closet.

Luckily I just needed to sew rows together for this New York Beauty.  But honestly there are seven borders.  I'll be sure and show you the finished quilt when I get those done.
I was in the shop today to quilt my black and white quilt.  Yay!!! I have it quilted and now just need to sew on the binding.  My daughter is going to be so surprised. :)
Tomorrow I'm at the shop for the day.  We have a lot of classes coming up and they are filling.  So much I want to do and so little time.....the story of a quilter.  :-)
With that I shall wish you all the best, until next time....
Happy quilting,

A Moment on Monday May 11

Hello again!  Can you believe it's been a week already since I last ranted here?    Time is passing way too quickly.  Sometimes I wish we could slow things down a bit to be able to enjoy where we are in life a little bit longer.  (or speed things up)  Anyway....I've been busy this week just like y'all.

What a mess I had last week and I am happy to say I am passed that and on to something else.  That something else should really be cleaning up the mess I've made in my sewing room but who has time for that?  I'll just work around it.  :)  I do have my quilt ready to take in to quilt.  Now to find the time to quilt it in time for our June 3 reunion. I love the backing I found and it was wide enough that I didn't need to piece it! yay!!!
And....I have all the wallets finished.  That was so much fun.  I was in the shop the other day and learned that the class is almost full.  The class size limit is 12 and it was already 9 on Friday.  If you have a chance to take the class it is so much fun and the wallets are adorable.  See......

I told you they are cute!  I can't wait to give these to the girls at the reunion this summer. They are going to be so surprised I made them.

Now on to something else....I really had better get my sewing room organized.  I truly thought I could work around it, but I just took a second look and it's not going to happen.  Wish me luck!

Until next time, my very best to you all.

Happy Quilting,

A Moment on Monday May 4

Hello friends!  I hope this finds everyone well and busy doing what you like to do best. I'm looking out my window at the apple trees. The blossoms on all the trees are amazing this spring.  They are loaded, which makes me think we just may be having a record crop of apples.  We could only be so lucky....right?

Well, have I been busy this week.  Last Monday Teresa had us out to the cottage for a workshop.  We made the cutest billfolds with the help of Betty.  They are so cool I just had to make some for my girls and of course when I get something in my head.....everything could be falling down around me and I'm busy with my newest project.  Then on top of all of that, I am cleaning up one of the biggest messes on that black and white quilt.  You know, I always clean my seams as I go so there won't be such a mess at the end.  However, this time I didn't and am I ever sorry.  It's going to take me forever to get this mess cleaned up before I can get it quilted.

See what a mess I have?  My wallets are in various states and the quilt.....ugh!!!  But aren't those wallets just the cutest?  There is going to be a class coming up this summer.  They are so much fun to make and they give you such an opportunity to use some of those cute fat quarters you've been collecting all these years but don't have anything to do with them.
Other than that, Bob and I have been playing as much golf as we can.  Unfortunately today was a little rainy.  You would think I could get a lot done in the sewing room, wouldn't you.........but like I said, Bob and I.......
So with that, I shall sign off, until next time.  My very best to you all.
Happy quilting,

A moment on Monday April 20, 2015

Hello everyone!  I hope this finds you all doing well.  I feel like we're about to be blown away out here in the country.  The wind sure is a blowin.  But at least we've gotten some much needed rain and the wind is drying off the roads so it's not so hard to drive.  All is well.

I've been busy since I last visited.  Lots of procrastination!  Do any of you have a section of a project that you really don't like to do?  Some people it's the binding and some hate to cut out the pieces. Me, I don't like b o r d e r s!  You all know what I'm talking about.  It's probably one of the easiest steps to do but......I'd rather sew on a binding, rather cut out an entire quilt top than sew on borders.  I've been trying to talk myself out of being so hard on myself for this.  You know it doesn't make me a bad person or anything.  I eventually get the borders on, but not without a lot of procrastination and frustration!  I sewed three fourths of the border on one side before I realized I was out of bobbin!  (I just hate it when that happens.)  (plus the border had to be pinned on all the way)  Anyway....enough of that.  In spite of all the extra time spent, I still managed to get that Love Hate quilt finished and almost ready for the quilters.  (I call it my Love Hate quilt because I kept waffling back and forth on liking it.)  I did end up liking it just fine.  Now I'm working on the backing, piecing a strip to off set down theback side for some added interest.   And that's another thing.  When did this happen?  Remember the day when the backing didn't matter so much?  You either used bleached muslin or unbleached.  No big deal.  I've seen quilts recently that the backs are pieced almost as pretty as the top! (I'm not making this up)

I was able to get into the shop this week and had lots of fun.  Getting things ready for the Mardi and Me club and my Bag Class in June.  Finally Theresa and I were able to come up with a date for the bag class.  We have kits cut out for this bag or  the Bathing Beauties.  Should be a lot of fun!

It seems like I've done a lot of ranting today.  But for some reason I feel a lot better.  :)
I wish you all the very best, until next time,
Happy quilting,

A Moment on Monday April, 6

Where is the time going?  At this rate we will all be complaining about how hot it is before we know it. I'm ready to get my flower pots all ready, but not before Mother's Day. I just might even plant some tomatoes this year while I'm doing all my flower beds. ;)

What a week. Last Tuesday we went to Madison Wisconsin (I think I told you) for cousin Lana's retirement and take the quilt for her new grand.

The contents of the basket were a big success as you can tell by the smile on Anne's face. Bob and I had such a good time during our visit and are looking forward to going back in August for a Door County bicycle ride.   Bob won't be riding his bike but we'll be on his motorcycle.  That's the plan for now.
Along with all the festivities in Madison, was the celebration of yet another birthday.....for me.  It was fun celebrating in downtown Madison with some really neat people.  A little more chaotic than how I'm used to spending it.  We came home on Friday to find a surprise on the doorstep.
What a nice surprise!  They had been there for a couple of days (in a box) but still looked
good.  Thanks goes to New Mexico!
Well, with all this traveling around, I haven't had any time to spend on my quilt I need to have ready
for the reunion in June.    So I had better get myself busy and make the best of my time.  This quilt is sooo out of my comfort zone.  Ah....a challenge!
I'm going to be attending the Mardi and Me club with Teresa.  It meets at the cottage, or you can receive everything electronically, and my first time is this month.  I'm really looking forward to it.
I've been out of the shop for a couple of weeks and am anxious to get back into the swing of things.  There's a lot of quilts to get quilted and I'm sure more fabric to see.  Can't wait!!!
Until next time, my very best to you all!
Happy Quilting,

A Moment on Monday March 30, 2015

Hey everyone!  It's so windy out here in the country. If what they say about March winds bringing April showers, we're likely to get a really wet April.

What a fun week I had!  Saturday, my boss from a few years ago, had a dinner party. It was such fun catching up with everyone that was able to make it. Every time we get together we try and get a stair picture taken.  This year was no different.
I spent a lot of time with these people, worked hard and laughed hard.  It's good to know they are still in my life from time to time.
Tomorrow we are leaving for cousin Lana's retirement.  And....I get to take Baby Belle's basket to give her.  Just got it put together this morning and it turned out really cute.

It doesn't look like it, but there is a baby quilt, a receiving blanket, two burp cloths and seven wash cloths in here.  I think baby Belle's mom is going to love it!

One more thing I want to share with y'all today....Shoes.(I'm probably the last one alive that doesn't know about these)  OMG!!!!The Gowalk2 made by Skechers are like walking on pillows with no constraints!  My daughter surprised me with a pair and I'm shocked.  I have never worn anything that feels so good on my feet.  I'm so going to try these out at work.

My very best to you all,
Happy Quilting,

A Moment on Monday on Wednesday

Hello everyone!  Bob and I were so busy on Monday with spring cleaning.  It's not every day you have a strong man help you with that.....so I had to take him up on it, gladly.  Besides that, I've been busy with bindings.  I counted 7 small quilts that I have been sewing the binding on. (not all mine) I really don't mind bindings, it's just that it seems like after you get it sewn on it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r stitching it down. Then I often make too much binding or change my mind on the binding and go with another fabric.  What do you do with all that extra binding?

My latest storage of these bindings, and it actually works well, and that is placing the binding in an empty tissue box.  It's amazing how many inches of binding you can get into the box. One of these days I'm going to find the right project for all these extras. In the mean time, I guess they'll go back in the "closet". :0

Cousin Lana's daughter recently had a baby and of course I had to make a quilt. (I love baby quilts) I'm binding it now.  I should already have it finished but......

We're going to Madison next week to present this to the sweet baby Belle. I'd better chop chop and get this finished.   I love babies!

In the middle of binding I'm still working on that checker board.  Remember from last week?  What was  I thinking?!#%#@

It keeps going on and on.  One of these days I'll share my finished quilt. I just know it. Keep your fingers crossed.

I made it back to work last week.  I didn't know if I would be able to handle two days in a row.  But I surprised myself and survived.  It's always such fun at the cottage and  Saturday proved to be no different.  I had lots of visitors from the quilt show held in  Dennison.  I'm still smiling.

Until next time.....my very best to you all

A Moment on Monday with Nancy March 16

Hey y'all...I mean, Hello everyone.  ( I'm having a hard time getting into the swing of things since we've been back)  Not too much to share with you all this week.  Bob and I have been doing fix it things around the house.  We had to go and buy a new light for the battroom.  The chain broke off into it and the whole thing needed replacing.  Not too many choices out there of lights that come with a chain.  I just couldn't talk Bob into putting a light switch in....I guess he likes the challenge of trying  to find the chain in the dark in the middle of the night.  Hmmm.....sounds like the makings of a country song.

This is the year I am going to try my hand at gardening. (again)  Last year at the State Fair, I bought the coolest gardening hat.  My girlfriend, Linda, told me to start small. Pick out an area in the yard and create something there.  (I'm narrowing down the sight) And.....this week I went to the library and checked out a book on country gardening.  However, someone at the library suggested I may want to just hire a landscape company to come in and take care of it.  (that's probably what I should do)  I'll let ya'll know how it turns out. :)

I have been trying to work on the black and white quilt I shared last week.  I'm having troube getting the rows to fit right.  (guess I need to work on that quarter of an inch seam) so....  I love doing checker boards. I am just keeping my fingers crossed they will fit when it comes time to sew them on the quilt.

Moments on Monday with Nancy March 9

This was the view from our room in Port Aransas.
Hello everyone!  I'm home!!!!  We made it back last night and are busy getting settled back into our routine.  I'm sitting in my sewing room now......what a MESS.  Although  I do have a project on my design board that is coming together.

Sure am anxious to get to working on it. It's going to be for my daughter in Illinois.  It is so out of my comfort zone, but I am having a lot of fun with it.  I thought I'd make pillow cases to match.  This is why I don't get too many old projects finished because I start so many new ones. :)

There were so many beautiful quilts at the show I went to in Corpus Christie.  The Coastal Bend Quilt and Needlework Guild did such a fine job with the quilt show.  One of my favorite quilts was in the applique catergory done by Sheralyn  Humble.  It was titled 100 Circles and was her first attempt at micro stippin on her homee sewing machine.

Bob went to the show with me.  He took a few crossword puzzes so I wouldn't feel rushed while
looking at all the quilts.  I would have to give him "Best of Show"  He was awesome. :)

Greetings Y'all from Texas!!!

I sure have missed sharing my finds with y'all and I have a lot to share.  This month has been busy and a lot of fun.  We've golfed a lot, walked on the beach, (and of course Bob got a lot of biking in) got a quilt show in and have eaten way too much!  But I am ready to get back home to my studio (sewing room) and get busy on some projects I have in the works.

You know I am originally from Oklahoma and am stilll amazed by this state everytime I go back.  While visiting my daughter on our way down here, we visited a beautiful park near the Bricktown area for a morning outing.  WOW!!!

And we also stopped by the beautiful Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. I had to sit down and take a break in the Micky Mantlle Plaza while Bob toured the stadium.

Then we were off to Texas.  One more stop in San Antonio to visit grand kids there.
The kids were not happy to see us leaving to go to the beach without them.  But they came down for a visit and we all had a great time.

Now we are on our last day here at the beach and I do hate to complain but......it's 50 and there is no sun!  :(  I guess it is time to get back to reality.  Next time I'll share pictures of the quilt show I went to while here in Texas.

Until next time.... happy quilting.
My very best to you all,

A moment on Monday with Nancy January 19

Hello everyone!  It's hard to believe it's been a week since I last chatted.  It's been a busy week.  I've been trying to get everything caught up before Bob and I leave next week for Texas.  And I have been able to get a lot done, but...."it" hit me!  Ideas and inspiration for a new project!  Of all times...I really don't have time to start a new project but when "it" hits you, there is no other choice but to go with "it"!  Plus,  I LOVE starting new projects. :) I can't wait to share pictures with you.  It's black, white and peacock.  All solids.  I usually don't work much with solids but I do like the way they look with the right project. :)

I've been busy working on "the bag" and writing down instructions.  Hopefully we will be offering a class for "the bag" this spring.  We got in the cutest fabric and I just had to use it.  The colors are so bright and cheerful. I love it!

Another project I've been wrapping up is a Sandy Gervais layer cake pattern, The Same But Different, using Rambling Rose Layer Cake and yardage.  Really cute and it just happens to be one of my favorite fabric lines.

So many new things going on at Stitchin Tree and The Quilters Cottage.  I hate to leave with so many exciting things happening! Like I said, Bob and I are leaving for Texas next week and won't be back until March!  There is no telling what Teresa will be up to while I'm gone.  But I will be sure and let you all know what I'm doing while in Texas. :)  I plan on taking hand projects to keep me busy.  Who knows, maybe I can get closer to finishing a project.  : /

My very best to you all,
Happy Quilting,

Moments on Monday January 12, 2015

Happy Birthday Teresa!!!!  Happy Birthday Teresa

Today, January 12, is Teresa's birthday.  Try and stop by anytime this week to wish her Happy Birthday.  This afternoon we should have cake but it probably won't last long. :)

Happy New Year everyone!!! It's amazing how fast time passes.  I haven't shared anything with y'all since last year!  (teeheehee)  Bob and I had a quiet time at home wishing in the New Year this year.  But we did manage to stay awake until midnight. :)

So many things going on I don't know where to start.....hmmm....oh yeah, Teresa had us (the girls) out to the cottage for a little one day retreat.  We always have such fun. We all had an assignment for a
new quilt design that Teresa is working on.

I can't wait to see what Teresa is going to do with this. :)

I finally got my laundry room project done.  My laundry room is upstairs and is really a nice size room. Over time it became a real mess, as it was used as my closet that just happened to have a washer and dryer in it.  Oh yeah...it also had a clothes rack that kept falling over, a chair and an ironing board.  Well, you all knows what happens when you have a chair handy....yep, everything gets tossed on and over that as well  as the ironing board. I didn't think to take a picture until I had it halfway cleared out

Of course in this picture you don't get to see how really bad is was. And now......

It sure makes me feel a lot better. :)

Now that is done I must concentrate on my sewing room.  I was really surprised how easy those shelves were to put up...hmmm....maybe I need some in my sewing room.  Speaking of sewing room... I just finished the cutest new baby quilt for the shop.  You are actually  getting a sneak peak. We will be kitting this quilt and did I say, it's a real cutie?  See for yourself

I'm working on another bag with the cutest fabric. Just in time for spring/summer. I'll share that next time.   I am working on the pattern to share.

Wishing you all the best,
Happy Quilting,
